As a Swiss community catering provider serving nearly 35,000 meals per day, we are responsible for moving towards an increasingly local, sustainable sourcing policy by making ambitious, pragmatic choices. So, this summer, don’t be surprised if you don’t find any avocado or mango on your plate! Instead, come and enjoy delicious seasonal Swiss fruits.
Avocado in your sushi? Yes! But only from October to April.
We have chosen only to serve European avocados during their growing season in Spain and Portugal. These avocados are available from October to April. Outside this period, we opt for other local, seasonal fruits and vegetables, avoiding imports and reducing the overall yearly consumption of these water-consuming exotic fruits.
Fresh mango in your desserts? Put mid-September in your diary.
To reduce the environmental impact caused by the transport and water consumption needed to grow mangoes, we only include them in our kitchens from mid-September to mid-June. This also makes way for Swiss summer fruit production, which is abundant and of beautiful quality this time of year!
