(Re)discover Swiss Grains from 16 to 20 September 2024

Taste Week: An Educational Culinary Journey

This year’s Swiss Taste Week takes place from 16 to 20 September. The nationwide event celebrates the meeting point between enjoying gourmet cuisine and the benefits of sustainable development. The aim is to promote and showcase quality products with authentic flavours, respecting each region’s culinary traditions.

The theme for the 2024 Taste Week: Swiss Grains

This year, Fourchette Verte has decided on the theme “Swiss Grains”. At Novae, we’ve chosen to shine the spotlight on gluten-free Swiss grains, so that every child can enjoy the same meal, no matter how well they tolerate gluten.

Our chefs will be giving free rein to their creativity, with dishes prepared with sorghum, rice, corn, quinoa, and buckwheat. These often-overlooked grains are, for some, a rare treat—and this makes them nutritional treasures that deserve to be (re)discovered.

With the rise of ultra-processed products, many of us have lost the habit of consuming raw grains cooked with simple, good-quality ingredients. Sometimes it takes a little effort to learn what they can offer, but once you get to know their health benefits, they instantly taste that much better.

Novae school restaurant program for 2024 Taste Week

We’ve whipped up a fun educational program to help kids learn about Swiss grains:

1. Sensory discovery

Each day, the children will get to discover a new grain through a variety of delicious dishes that stimulate their senses of taste, sight, touch, and smell. Throughout the week, each day will be dedicated to a different grain: sorghum, rice, corn, quinoa, and buckwheat. The children will have the opportunity to interact with the grains in their raw state by seeing them, touching them, and smelling them.

Through informative posters and workshops, the children will learn about the origin of each grain, as well as its nutritional benefits and unique characteristics.

2. Games and activities

Educational games and activities will be included to stimulate the children’s curiosity, so they can have fun while they learn.

3. A Novae recipe for the whole family to make together

To take the Taste Week experience home with you, our chefs would like to share this simple, tasty recipe that you can make with your family: Novae Braid recipe

The benefits of gluten-free grains

Grains offer many health benefits:

  • Rich in fiber (when they’re not refined): They promote good digestion and intestinal health.
  • Sources of vitamins and minerals: They provide essential nutrients such as magnesium, iron, and B vitamins.
  • Sustainable energy: The complex carbohydrates in these grains provide long-lasting energy, ideal for active children.
  • Culinary diversity: These grains provide a variety of tastes and textures, enriching each child’s culinary experience.

Join us for a taste adventure!

We’re inviting families to participate in this culinary adventure by trying the braid recipe at home and sharing their creations on social media. Use the hashtag #semainedugoutnovae and tag us @novae_restauration on Facebook and Instagram.

At Novae, we love contributing to children’s food education, bringing together enjoyment, health, and sustainable eating.
